Findings of modest clinical value seen for adults with rheumatoid arthritis<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n

TUESDAY, April 18, 2023 (HealthDay News) — The use of a digital health application with patient-reported outcomes is associated with an increase in disease control rate for adults with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), according to a study published online April 14 in JAMA Network Open<\/em>.<\/p>\n Chun Li, M.D., from the Peking University People s Hospital in Beijing, and colleagues assessed whether patient-reported outcomes using digital health applications could result in disease control for patients with RA. The analysis included 2,197 adult patients with RA who were randomly assigned to a smart system of disease management (SSDM) group or a conventional care control group.<\/p>\n The researchers found that at month 6, the rate of patients with a disease activity score in 28 joints using the C-reactive protein (DAS28-CRP) of \u00e2\u0089\u00a43.2 was 71.0 percent in the SSDM group versus 64.5 percent in the control group (difference between groups, 6.6 percent; 95 percent confidence interval, 2.7 to 10.4 percent; P = 0.001). The rate of patients with a DAS28-CRP of \u00e2\u0089\u00a43.2 at month 12 in the control group increased to a level (77.7 percent) that was similar to that of the SSDM group (78.2 percent; difference between groups, \u00e2\u0088\u00920.2 percent; 95 percent confidence interval, \u00e2\u0088\u00923.9 to 3.4 percent; P = 0.90).<\/p>\n “This study provides modest clinical value that application-based patient-reported outcomes and intervention could be an effective way to treat patients with RA and may provide evidence for diseases with complex treatment targets,” the authors write.<\/p>\n
