{"id":9719,"date":"2018-08-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/29\/marketplace-premiums-increase-more-with-monopolist-insurers\/"},"modified":"2018-08-30T16:04:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T16:04:58","slug":"marketplace-premiums-increase-more-with-monopolist-insurers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/29\/marketplace-premiums-increase-more-with-monopolist-insurers\/","title":{"rendered":"Marketplace Premiums Increase More With Monopolist Insurers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Marketplace premiums 50 percent higher in rating areas with monopolist insurer versus &#62;2 insurers<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY, Aug. 29, 2018 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Affordable Care Act Marketplace premiums increase more in areas with monopolist insurers, according to a study published in the August issue of <i>Health Affairs<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Van Parys, Ph.D., from the City University of New York in New York City, examined data from a comprehensive database of information about premiums and market characteristics for rating areas in states with federally facilitated Marketplaces to examine whether higher premiums are associated with local health insurance monopolies.<\/p>\n<p>Van Parys found that, on average, Marketplace premiums were 50 percent ($180) higher in rating areas with monopolist insurers versus those with more than two insurers.
