{"id":92769,"date":"2022-12-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/19\/ckd-linked-to-greater-neuromuscular-fatigability\/"},"modified":"2022-12-21T01:31:10","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T01:31:10","slug":"ckd-linked-to-greater-neuromuscular-fatigability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/19\/ckd-linked-to-greater-neuromuscular-fatigability\/","title":{"rendered":"CKD Linked to Greater Neuromuscular Fatigability"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>Only peak force fatigability, but not peak rate of force development, contributed to fatigue variance<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b>By Elana Gotkine HealthDay Reporter<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, Dec. 19, 2022 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with greater neuromuscular fatigability, which increases with fatigue severity, according to a study published online Dec. 9 in <em>Medicine &#038; Science in Sports &#038; Exercise<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Antoine Chatrenet, Ph.D., from Le Mans Universit \u00a9 in France, and colleagues examined the etiology of neuromuscular fatigability in a study involving 45 CKD patients and 57 controls. Two questionnaires were used to assess fatigue. During explosive contractions, the peak rate of force development (RFD<sub>peak<\/sub>, normalized: NRFD<sub>peak<\/sub>) and rate of electromyography rise (RER) were measured. During maximum voluntary contractions, peak force and mean surface electromyography were measured.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that the main impact of CKD was on the Mental and the Reduced Motivation subscales of fatigue. CKD was associated with greater neuromuscular fatigability measured using NRFD<sub>peak<\/sub>, which increased with the severity of fatigue and with a higher rate of RER decrease compared with controls. An association was seen between the Reduced Motivation subscale and the RER in these patients.
