{"id":6299,"date":"2018-06-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/06\/job-strain-may-raise-death-risk-in-men-with-cardiometabolic-dz\/"},"modified":"2018-06-07T16:09:43","modified_gmt":"2018-06-07T16:09:43","slug":"job-strain-may-raise-death-risk-in-men-with-cardiometabolic-dz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/06\/06\/job-strain-may-raise-death-risk-in-men-with-cardiometabolic-dz\/","title":{"rendered":"Job Strain May Raise Death Risk in Men With Cardiometabolic Dz"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Increased mortality greater than excess linked to HTN, obesity, physical inactivity, high alcohol intake<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY, June 6, 2018 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Job strain is associated with an increased risk of death among men with cardiometabolic disease, according to research published online June 5 in <i>The Lancet Diabetes &#038; Endocrinology<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Mika Kivim\u00e4ki, F.Med.Sci., from the Helsinki Institute of Life Science, and colleagues examined the correlation between work stress and mortality using data from seven cohort studies in the Individual-Participant-Data Meta-analysis in Working Populations (IPD-Work) consortium initiated between 1985 and 2002. Work stress was classified as job strain or effort-reward imbalance. Individual-level data were extracted on prevalent cardiometabolic diseases at baseline.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that 3,441 of 102,633 individuals with 1,423,753 person-years at risk had prevalent cardiometabolic disease at baseline and 3,841 died during follow-up. Age-standardized mortality rates were substantially higher in those with versus those without job strain among men with cardiometabolic disease (mortality difference, 52.1 per 10,000 person-years; multivariable-adjusted hazard ratio, 1.68).
