{"id":59807,"date":"2021-08-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/06\/red-meat-tied-to-higher-risk-for-ischemic-heart-disease\/"},"modified":"2021-08-09T17:11:22","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T17:11:22","slug":"red-meat-tied-to-higher-risk-for-ischemic-heart-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/08\/06\/red-meat-tied-to-higher-risk-for-ischemic-heart-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Meat Tied to Higher Risk for Ischemic Heart Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>Meta-analysis shows higher heart disease risk tied to higher consumption of both processed meat and unprocessed red meat<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>FRIDAY, Aug. 6, 2021 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Higher intake of both unprocessed red meat and processed meat is associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD), according to a review published online July 20 in <em>Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Keren Papier, Ph.D., from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom, and colleagues conducted a systematic literature search to assess the relationship of unprocessed red meat, processed meat, and poultry intake with the risk for IHD.<\/p>\n<p>Based on 13 published articles (total 1,427,989 participants; 32,630 IHD cases), the researchers found that higher consumption of unprocessed red meat was associated with a higher risk for IHD (relative risk per 50 g\/day higher intake, 1.09; 12 studies), as was higher consumption of processed meat (relative risk, 1.18; 10 studies). Poultry intake was not associated with IHD (10 studies).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In conclusion, this large meta-analysis of meat intake and IHD risk shows that unprocessed red and processed meat might be risk factors for IHD,&#8221; the authors write. &#8220;This supports public health recommendations to reduce the consumption of unprocessed red and processed meat intake for the prevention of IHD.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/10408398.2021.1949575\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abstract\/Full Text<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\">HealthDay<\/a>.
