{"id":55335,"date":"2021-05-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-24T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/05\/24\/acc-ultrasound-renal-denervation-cuts-bp-in-med-resistant-htn\/"},"modified":"2021-05-25T16:10:49","modified_gmt":"2021-05-25T16:10:49","slug":"acc-ultrasound-renal-denervation-cuts-bp-in-med-resistant-htn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/05\/24\/acc-ultrasound-renal-denervation-cuts-bp-in-med-resistant-htn\/","title":{"rendered":"ACC: Ultrasound Renal Denervation Cuts BP in Med-Resistant HTN"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>Reduction in daytime ambulatory systolic blood pressure at two months greater with ultrasound renal denervation versus sham procedure<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, May 24, 2021 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Ultrasound renal denervation reduces blood pressure compared with a sham procedure among patients with hypertension resistant to a standardized triple combination pill, according to a study published online May 16 in <em>The Lancet <\/em>to coincide with the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology, held virtually from May 15 to 17.<\/p>\n<p>Michel Azizi, M.D., from the Universit \u00a9 de Paris, and colleagues conducted a randomized single-blind, sham-controlled trial involving patients aged 18 to 75 years with office blood pressure of at least 140\/90 mm Hg despite three or more antihypertensive medications, including a diuretic. Patients were switched to a once-daily, fixed-dose, single pill combination of a calcium channel blocker, angiotensin receptor blocker, and thiazide diuretic. Those with daytime ambulatory blood pressure of at least 135\/85 mm Hg after four weeks of therapy were randomly assigned to either ultrasound renal denervation or a sham procedure (69 and 67 patients, respectively).<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that compared with the sham procedure, there was a greater reduction in daytime ambulatory systolic blood pressure at two months with renal denervation (\u00e2\u0088\u00928.0 versus \u00e2\u0088\u00923.0 mm Hg, respectively; median between-group difference, \u00e2\u0088\u00924.5 mm Hg). Among patients with complete ambulatory blood pressure data, the median between-group difference was \u00e2\u0088\u00925.8 mm Hg.
