{"id":52316,"date":"2021-03-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-03-30T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/03\/30\/pandemic-lockdowns-tied-to-more-eating-disorder-symptoms\/"},"modified":"2021-04-01T15:11:09","modified_gmt":"2021-04-01T15:11:09","slug":"pandemic-lockdowns-tied-to-more-eating-disorder-symptoms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2021\/03\/30\/pandemic-lockdowns-tied-to-more-eating-disorder-symptoms\/","title":{"rendered":"Pandemic Lockdowns Tied to More Eating Disorder Symptoms"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>Exercise addiction fell following lockdown, but post-COVID-19 lockdown, exercise rates increased<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TUESDAY, March 30, 2021 (HealthDay News) &#8212; COVID-19 lockdowns are associated with an increase in self-reported eating disorder symptoms, according to a study published in the April issue of <em>Psychiatry Research<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Trott, from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England, and colleagues examined the effect of COVID-19 quarantines on morbid exercise, eating, and body image behaviors compared to pre- and post-COVID-19 lockdown. The analysis included 319 participants (mean age, 36.77 years; 84 percent female) who completed a battery of questions with 14-month follow-up.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that exercise addiction scores were significantly lower post-COVID-19 lockdown, whereas eating disorder symptomology scores were significantly higher. Leisure-time exercise significantly increased post-COVID-19 lockdown.
