{"id":40772,"date":"2020-10-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/10\/06\/cpap-cuts-daytime-resting-heart-rate-in-patients-with-prediabetes\/"},"modified":"2020-10-07T16:10:19","modified_gmt":"2020-10-07T16:10:19","slug":"cpap-cuts-daytime-resting-heart-rate-in-patients-with-prediabetes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/10\/06\/cpap-cuts-daytime-resting-heart-rate-in-patients-with-prediabetes\/","title":{"rendered":"CPAP Cuts Daytime Resting Heart Rate in Patients With Prediabetes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Proof-of-concept study shows optimal treatment of sleep apnea may have positive CV carryover effects<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TUESDAY, Oct. 6, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for obstructive sleep apnea optimally used at night reduces resting heart rate during the day, according to a study published online Oct. 1 in the <i>Journal of the American Heart Association<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Sushmita Pamidi, M.D., from the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, and colleagues randomly assigned 39 participants with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and prediabetes to either in-laboratory all-night CPAP or an oral placebo for two weeks. For 19 consecutive days and nights, resting heart rate was continuously assessed using an ambulatory device.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that compared with placebo, CPAP reduced daytime resting heart rate (treatment difference, \u22124.1 beats\/min). Significant correlations were noted between the magnitude of reduction in daytime resting heart rate after treatment and the magnitude of decrease in plasma norepinephrine, a marker of sympathetic activity, as well as the magnitude of decrease in OSA severity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These findings suggest that better identification and treatment of OSA may have important clinical implications for cardiovascular disease prevention,&#8221; the authors write.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ahajournals.org\/doi\/10.1161\/JAHA.120.016871\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abstract\/Full Text<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HealthDay<\/a>.
