{"id":3564,"date":"2018-04-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/04\/10\/metabolic-syndrome-common-in-patients-with-lupus\/"},"modified":"2018-04-11T16:09:59","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T16:09:59","slug":"metabolic-syndrome-common-in-patients-with-lupus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/04\/10\/metabolic-syndrome-common-in-patients-with-lupus\/","title":{"rendered":"Metabolic Syndrome Common in Patients With Lupus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>However, findings show that frequency of metabolic syndrome similar to the general population<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TUESDAY, April 10, 2018 (HealthDay News) &#8212; As with the general population, metabolic syndrome (MetS) is common among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), according to a study published online April 3 in the <i>International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Maryam Mobini, M.D., from Mazandaran University in Sari, Iran, and colleagues evaluated the frequency of MetS in 73 SLE patients (95.8 percent female) compared with 73 age- and sex-matched controls.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that there was not a significant difference of MetS in SLE patients versus controls (P > 0.05). However, SLE patients were more likely to have hypertension (P = 0.038). Age and disease duration were significantly higher in the MetS subgroup among SLE patients with major organ involvement (P < 0.05).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The frequency of MetS was not significantly different from that of the control group, but almost half of the patients were found with this syndrome,&#8221; the authors write. &#8220;This calls for further follow up and appropriate treatment of patients with MetS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/full\/10.1111\/1756-185X.13276\" target=\"_new\">Abstract\/Full Text (subscription or payment may be required)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\">HealthDay<\/a>.
