{"id":31793,"date":"2020-02-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-28T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/28\/inflammatory-conditions-of-skin-bowel-may-be-linked\/"},"modified":"2020-03-02T17:10:10","modified_gmt":"2020-03-02T17:10:10","slug":"inflammatory-conditions-of-skin-bowel-may-be-linked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/28\/inflammatory-conditions-of-skin-bowel-may-be-linked\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflammatory Conditions of Skin, Bowel May Be Linked"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Authors say patients with hidradenitis suppurativa should be screened for inflammatory bowel disease<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>FRIDAY, Feb. 28, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; There appears to be a link between hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), according to a review published in the February issue of the <i>International Journal of Dermatology<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Phan, M.D., from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, and colleagues conducted a systematic literature review to identify studies evaluating the association between HS and IBD.<\/p>\n<p>Based on six included studies, the researchers observed a significant association between HS and IBD. When data were pooled in a meta-analysis, the adjusted effect sizes showed an odds ratio of 2.12. There was a significant association between HS and both Crohn disease (odds ratio, 2.25) and ulcerative colitis (odds ratio, 1.56).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our results highlight that all patients with HS should be clinically screened for symptoms of IBD and symptomatic patients referred for further investigations,&#8221; the authors write. &#8220;It should also be noted that cutaneous Crohn&#8217;s disease and inguinal\/perineal HS have a clinical overlap, and this needs to be considered in any patient with severe perineal HS.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/ijd.14697\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abstract\/Full Text (subscription or payment may be required)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HealthDay<\/a>.
