{"id":30488,"date":"2020-01-27T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-01-27T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/01\/27\/effects-of-vit-d-correction-on-cv-health-studied-in-obese-children\/"},"modified":"2020-01-28T17:10:09","modified_gmt":"2020-01-28T17:10:09","slug":"effects-of-vit-d-correction-on-cv-health-studied-in-obese-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2020\/01\/27\/effects-of-vit-d-correction-on-cv-health-studied-in-obese-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Effects of Vit D Correction on CV Health Studied in Obese Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>No change seen in endothelial function, but reductions in BP, fasting glucose concentration seen at six months<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, Jan. 27, 2020 (HealthDay News) &#8212; For vitamin D-deficient overweight and obese children, high-dose supplementation with vitamin D does not improve measures of arterial endothelial function or stiffness, but it does result in reductions in blood pressure (BP) and fasting glucose concentration, according to a study published online Jan. 17 in <i>The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Kumaravel Rajakumar, M.D., from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and colleagues examined whether supplementation with vitamin D<sub>3<\/sub> 1,000 or 2,000 IU\/day is more effective than 600 IU\/day for improving arterial endothelial function, arterial stiffness, central and systemic BP, insulin sensitivity, fasting glucose concentration, and lipid profile in 225 vitamin D-deficient overweight and obese children (aged 10 to 18 years).<\/p>\n<p>The researchers observed no difference between children receiving 1,000 or 2,000 IU\/day and those receiving 600 IU\/day in the changes at three and six months in endothelial function, arterial stiffness, systemic-systolic BP, lipids, and inflammatory markers. There were some between-group differences noted in secondary outcomes. At six months, central-systolic, central-diastolic, and systemic-diastolic BP were lower in the 1,000-IU versus the 600-IU group (\u22122.66, \u22123.57, and \u22123.28 mm Hg, respectively).
