{"id":27440,"date":"2019-11-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2019\/11\/08\/test-of-vascular-function-may-predict-solid-tumor-cancer-risk\/"},"modified":"2019-11-12T17:10:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-12T17:10:07","slug":"test-of-vascular-function-may-predict-solid-tumor-cancer-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2019\/11\/08\/test-of-vascular-function-may-predict-solid-tumor-cancer-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"Test of Vascular Function May Predict Solid-Tumor Cancer Risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry index &#8804;2.0 predicted incidence of solid-tumor cancer<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>THURSDAY, Nov. 7, 2019 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Microvascular endothelial dysfunction is associated with an increased risk for solid-tumor cancer, according to a study published online Oct. 31 in the <i>European Journal of Preventive Cardiology<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Takumi Toya, M.D., from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and colleagues examined the predictive value of microvascular endothelial dysfunction for future risk for solid-tumor cancer in 488 patients who underwent microvascular endothelial function assessment using reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that 9.5 and 3.7 percent of patients with a baseline reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry index \u22642.0 (defined as microvascular endothelial dysfunction) and >2.0, respectively, were diagnosed with incident solid-tumor cancer during follow-up. Compared with patients with a reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry index >2.0, those with a reactive hyperemia arterial tonometry index \u22642.0 had lower solid-tumor cancer-free survival during a median follow-up of six years. The incidence of solid-tumor cancer was predicted by reactive hyperemia peripheral arterial tonometry index \u22642.0, with a hazard ratio of 2.52 after adjustment for age, sex, and coronary artery disease. Hazard ratios were 2.83 after adjusting for diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking status, and body mass index >30 kg\/m\u00b2; 2.79 after adjusting for fasting plasma glucose, systolic blood pressure, smoking status (current or former), and body mass index; and 2.43 after adjusting for the Framingham risk score.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This abnormal vasoreactivity should alert clinicians not only to the risk of cardiovascular disease but to malignancy, as well,&#8221; a coauthor said in a statement. &#8220;This risk prediction appears to precede the development of disease by more than five years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>One author disclosed financial ties to Itamar Medical.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/2047487319884246\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Abstract\/Full Text<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HealthDay<\/a>.
