{"id":26588,"date":"2019-10-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2019\/10\/18\/nata-single-sport-focus-not-good-for-children\/"},"modified":"2019-10-21T16:10:04","modified_gmt":"2019-10-21T16:10:04","slug":"nata-single-sport-focus-not-good-for-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2019\/10\/18\/nata-single-sport-focus-not-good-for-children\/","title":{"rendered":"NATA: Single-Sport Focus Not Good for Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Association says children should not play a single sport for more than eight months a year<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>FRIDAY, Oct. 18, 2019 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Parents should try to keep their children from focusing on a single sport for as long as possible to reduce their risk for injuries and other problems, the National Athletic Trainers&#8217; Association (NATA) says.<\/p>\n<p>In new recommendations, the group also says that young athletes should get at least two days of rest each week and that they should not play a single sport for more than eight months a year, <i>The New York Times<\/i> reported Friday.<\/p>\n<p>As a guideline, the NATA says the number of hours children should spend in sports training each week should match their age.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Single-sports specialization is bordering on an epidemic in terms of the risks it can pose, for physical injuries as well as the potential for negative psychological effects,&#8221; said Tory Lindley, president of the NATA, <i>The Times<\/i> reported. &#8220;There is a myth that it takes a single-sport specialization to succeed.
