Edwards HealthDay Reporter<\/b><br \/>\n<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY, Oct. 22, 2025 (HealthDay News) \u2014 The maker of Tylenol is urging U.S. health regulators not to add an autism warning label to it and other pain relievers containing acetaminophen, calling the request \u201cunsupported by the scientific evidence and legally and procedurally improper.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kenvue.com\/\">Kenvue\u2019s<\/a> response, dated Oct. 17, came after a citizen petition sought new pregnancy warnings for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drugs.com\/acetaminophen.html\">acetaminophen<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The petition, filed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/icandecide.org\/\">Informed Consent Action Network<\/a>, asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to note a possible link between prenatal exposure and autism or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/health-news\/child-health\/adhd-2664546878.html\">attention-deficit\/hyperactivity disorder<\/a> (ADHD).<\/p>\n<p>The petition piggybacked on recent remarks by President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/administration\/donald-j-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a>, who said Tylenol might cause autism \u2014 a claim many health experts say is not supported by science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor over a decade \u2014 and as recently as August \u2014 FDA has fully evaluated the emerging scientific evidence and repeatedly concluded that the data do not support a causal association between acetaminophen use in pregnancy and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism,\u201d Kenvue said.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter to doctors, FDA Commissioner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/about-fda\/fda-organization\/martin-makary\">Dr. Martin Makary<\/a> said that while some studies describe an association, &#8220;a causal relationship has not been established and there are contrary studies in the scientific literature,&#8221; <em>NBC News <\/em>reported.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say acetaminophen remains the only pain reliever considered safe during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Mayo Clinic has more on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements\/acetaminophen-oral-route-rectal-route\/description\/drg-20068480\">acetaminophen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SOURCE: <em>NBC News<\/em>, Oct. 21, 2025<\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><br \/>\n<i>Copyright &#169; 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/consumer.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\">HealthDay<\/a>.
