Although not required to do so, the FDA often follows the recommendations of its advisory committees.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams, M.D., M.P.H., issued an advisory urging opioid users, their families, and their friends to keep naloxone nearby, the <i>Post<\/i> reported.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, there were a record 70,000 drug overdose deaths, including a record 47,600 opioid overdose deaths in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national\/health-science\/fda-panel-backs-prescribing-opioid-antidote-alongside-painkillers\/2018\/12\/18\/46e737ac-030a-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html\" target=\"_new\"><i>Washington Post<\/i> Article<\/a><\/p>\n<p><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Copyright \u00a9 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/\" target=\"_new\">HealthDay<\/a>.
