{"id":112487,"date":"2024-09-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-17T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/17\/most-parents-are-moving-kids-out-of-car-booster-seats-too-soon\/"},"modified":"2024-09-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-17T00:00:00","slug":"most-parents-are-moving-kids-out-of-car-booster-seats-too-soon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/17\/most-parents-are-moving-kids-out-of-car-booster-seats-too-soon\/","title":{"rendered":"Most Parents Are Moving Kids Out of Car Booster Seats Too Soon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><\/h3>\n<p><b>By Dennis Thompson HealthDay Reporter<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TUESDAY, Sept. 17, 2024 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Most parents are placing their kids in harms\u00e2\u0080\u0099 way by moving them out of their car booster seats too soon, a new study warns.<\/p>\n<p>Four out of five parents moved their kid out of a booster seat before the child was big enough, according to the report, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/1bc0da2f30b84aee7c8e-bc60ebfeff758c32160497c88f41c52d.ssl.cf5.rackcdn.com\/2024\/STUDY-BOOSTER%20SEATS%202024-1.pdf\">Booster Seat Use in the USA: Breakthroughs and Barriers<\/a><\/em>, published Sept. 16 by Safe Kids Worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Further, three in four parents didn\u00e2\u0080\u0099t know that children need to ride in boosters until they\u00e2\u0080\u0099re at least 4-foot-9, results show.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u0080\u009cBooster seats save lives and prevent serious injuries, but only if we use them and make sure they are adjusted properly,\u00e2\u0080\u009d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.safekids.org\/author\/torine-creppy\">Torine Creppy<\/a>, president of Safe Kids Worldwide. \u00e2\u0080\u009cHere\u00e2\u0080\u0099s a great first step: once your child is big enough to use a booster seat, keep using it until they can safely ride in a seat belt alone. It\u00e2\u0080\u0099s the best way to keep your child safe.\u00e2\u0080\u009d<\/p>\n<p>For the study, researchers with Ohio State University conducted an online survey of more than 3,000 parents and caregivers with kids ages 4 to 10.<\/p>\n<p>Booster seats can reduce the risk of serious injury by 45% compared to using a seat belt alone, researchers said in background notes.<\/p>\n<p>But survey results showed that many parents aren\u00e2\u0080\u0099t making sure their kid is big enough before getting rid of the booster seat.<\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that carpooling can be a risk for kids:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>30% of caregivers said they don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t always follow safety rules when driving a carpool, letting kids ride without the usual restraints.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>80% said they\u00e2\u0080\u0099ve noticed other drivers don\u00e2\u0080\u0099t follow safety rules while carpooling kids.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Many also engaged in unsafe practices to make it easier to drop off and pick up kids from school.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00e2\u0080\u009cOur goal is for every child to be appropriately restrained for every ride.
