{"id":111837,"date":"2024-08-19T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/19\/metal-wire-fragments-trigger-recall-of-167000-lbs-of-perdue-chicken-products\/"},"modified":"2024-08-19T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-19T00:00:00","slug":"metal-wire-fragments-trigger-recall-of-167000-lbs-of-perdue-chicken-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/19\/metal-wire-fragments-trigger-recall-of-167000-lbs-of-perdue-chicken-products\/","title":{"rendered":"Metal Wire Fragments Trigger Recall of 167,000 Lbs of Perdue Chicken Products"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><\/h3>\n<p><b>By Robin Foster HealthDay Reporter<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>MONDAY, Aug. 19, 2024 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Perdue Foods has recalled over 167,000 pounds of chicken nuggets and tenders after consumers complained of finding bits of metal in the products.<\/p>\n<p>The recall covers select lots of Perdue Breaded Chicken Tenders, Butcher Box Organic Chicken Breast Nuggets and Perdue Simply Smart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries or adverse reactions tied to eating these foods have been reported, according to Perdue and the U.S. Agriculture Department\u00e2\u0080\u0099s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), but the agency noted in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/perdue-foods-llc-recalls-frozen-ready-eat-chicken-breast-nugget-and-tender-products\">news release<\/a> that it is concerned some of the products may still be in consumers\u00e2\u0080\u0099 freezers.<\/p>\n<p>The problem first came to light after consumers discovered metal wire bits in chicken they bought. Following an investigation, \u00e2\u0080\u009cwe determined the material to be a very thin strand of metal wire that was inadvertently introduced into the manufacturing process,\u00e2\u0080\u009d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/jeffrey-shaw-0854b336\/\">Jeff Shaw<\/a>, senior vice president of food safety and quality for Perdue, said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.perduefarms.com\/news\/press-releases\/perdue-voluntary-recall\/\">company statement<\/a>. \u00e2\u0080\u009cOut of an abundance of caution, we decided to voluntarily recall all of these packages of products.\u00e2\u0080\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The affected tenders and nuggets can be identified by product codes listed in the\u00a0<ins><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/recalls-alerts\/perdue-foods-llc-recalls-frozen-ready-eat-chicken-breast-nugget-and-tender-products\" rel=\"noopener\">FSIS notice<\/a><\/ins>. All three products have a best if used by date of March 23, 2025, and establishment number \u00e2\u0080\u009cP-33944\u00e2\u0080\u009d on the back of the package. They were sold at retailers nationwide and online.<\/p>\n<p>What should consumers do? Anyone who has the recalled chicken should throw it away or return the product to its place of purchase, Perdue said. The company is offering full refunds to consumers who call 866-866-3703.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign object contamination is\u00a0one of the the leading reasons\u00a0for food recalls in the United States, the <em>Associated Press<\/em> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Last November, Tyson Foods\u00a0<ins><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthday.com\/health-news\/tyson-chicken-nuggets-recalled-over-small-metal-pieces-in-product\">recalled<\/a><\/ins>\u00a0nearly 30,000 pounds of chicken nuggets after consumers also found metal pieces in the dinosaur-shaped products.
