{"id":106931,"date":"2024-01-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-16T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/16\/cognitive-therapy-or-trazodone-not-effective-for-insomnia-in-hemodialysis\/"},"modified":"2024-01-17T18:52:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T18:52:48","slug":"cognitive-therapy-or-trazodone-not-effective-for-insomnia-in-hemodialysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/16\/cognitive-therapy-or-trazodone-not-effective-for-insomnia-in-hemodialysis\/","title":{"rendered":"Cognitive Therapy or Trazodone Not Effective for Insomnia in Hemodialysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>No difference seen in effectiveness of six weeks of CBT-I or trazodone compared with placebo for patients undergoing hemodialysis<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b>By Elana Gotkine HealthDay Reporter<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>TUESDAY, Jan. 16, 2024 (HealthDay News) &#8212; For patients undergoing hemodialysis with chronic insomnia, the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) or trazodone does not differ from placebo, according to a study published online Jan. 16 in the <em>Annals of Internal Medicine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Rajnish Mehrotra, M.D., from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, and colleagues compared the effectiveness of CBT-I, trazodone, and placebo for insomnia in a randomized, multicenter trial involving patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis conducted in 26 dialysis units. Overall, 126 patients with chronic insomnia were randomly assigned to six weeks of CBT-I, trazodone, or placebo (43, 42, and 41 patients, respectively).<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that the change in the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) score from baseline to seven weeks was no different for CBT-I or trazodone versus placebo (\u00e2\u0088\u00923.7, \u00e2\u0088\u00924.2, and \u00e2\u0088\u00923.1, respectively). From baseline to 25 weeks, there was no meaningful change observed in ISI scores: \u00e2\u0088\u00924.8, \u00e2\u0088\u00924.0, and \u00e2\u0088\u00924.3 with CBT-I, trazodone, and placebo, respectively.
