{"id":103114,"date":"2023-08-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-25T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/25\/extreme-heat-exposure-tied-to-faster-cognitive-decline-in-vulnerable-populations\/"},"modified":"2023-08-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T00:00:00","slug":"extreme-heat-exposure-tied-to-faster-cognitive-decline-in-vulnerable-populations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2023\/08\/25\/extreme-heat-exposure-tied-to-faster-cognitive-decline-in-vulnerable-populations\/","title":{"rendered":"Extreme Heat Exposure Tied to Faster Cognitive Decline in Vulnerable Populations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>\n<p>Association seen for Black residents and residents of poor neighborhoods, but not for White residents or those in wealthier neighborhoods<\/p>\n<\/h3>\n<p><b>By Lori Solomon HealthDay Reporter<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>FRIDAY, Aug. 25, 2023 (HealthDay News) &#8212; Extreme heat exposure can disproportionately undermine cognitive health in later life for socially vulnerable populations, according to a study published Aug. 4 in the <em>Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Eun Young Choi, from New York University in New York, and colleagues merged data from seven waves of the Health and Retirement Study (2006 to 2018) with historical temperature data to assess the role of extreme heat exposure on trajectories of cognitive function among U.S. adults aged 52 years and older.<\/p>\n<p>The researchers found that high exposure to extreme heat was associated with faster cognitive decline for Black residents and residents of poor neighborhoods.
