{"id":10100,"date":"2018-09-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/09\/06\/opioid-maker-to-pay-for-overdose-antidote-development\/"},"modified":"2018-09-07T16:04:38","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T16:04:38","slug":"opioid-maker-to-pay-for-overdose-antidote-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/medgoo.com\/index.php\/2018\/09\/06\/opioid-maker-to-pay-for-overdose-antidote-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Opioid Maker to Pay for Overdose Antidote Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Grant is being given to Harm Reduction Therapeutics to develop low-cost, OTC naloxone nasal spray<\/h3>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>THURSDAY, Sept. 6, 2018 (HealthDay News) &#8212; A $3.4 million grant to help a non-profit company develop a less expensive opioid overdose antidote was announced by Purdue Pharma, which makes the opioid painkiller OxyContin.<\/p>\n<p>The grant is being given to Pittsburgh-based Harm Reduction Therapeutics, which is trying to develop a low-cost nasal spray with the opioid overdose antidote naloxone.<\/p>\n<p>Purdue is among a number of prescription opioid makers blamed for causing the United States&#8217; opioid addiction and overdose crisis, the <i>Associated Press<\/i> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Purdue and other drug companies are being sued by local governments that claim the companies used deceptive marketing that encouraged doctors to overprescribe opioids, the <i>AP<\/i> reported.
